The high MOI comes from having an extra thin face, and an extra thick exoskeleton.
It is nearly 10 grams heavier than your driver, yet its face while larger is near 20% lighter.
The body wall thicknesses are not only thicker providing more perimeter weight, and a higher MOI, they are made of a stronger, stiffer grade of Beta-Ti.
The distance comes from a combination of a wicked thin super hot face, combined with a body that is super ridged and without any “give” to force the face to flex more.
This new design is slightly wider from heel to toe (4mm), and slightly longer from the leading edge to the trailing edge (5mm), but just 2mm shallower. The result of this is a much more stable launch platform reducing side spin for an accuracy gain of 26%
The area of a driver that is in between the crown and the sole is called “the skirt”, Vector drivers have no skirt as the crown and the sole directly meet without any middle piece. We call this place where they meet “the hemline” The hemline on the new Tour Spec driver has been lowered 8mm from the Vector 460 MF model, the result of this is that the vertical center of gravity was lowered to just below the geometric center of the face which provides a higher more optimal initial launch angle, giving you more flight time, a full 7 seconds of flight time on average!
It is this extra second of flight time that allows for a shallower angle of decent that produces such astonishing roll.
Volume 460cc Face thickness 2.6mm Face height 60mm.
Vector driver shafts
It should be noted that we submitted the new Vector 460 Tour Spec to www.Rankmark.com for their July 2008 driver test where golfers of all abilities had a chance to hit drivers from all the major club companies from Callaway® on down.
Naturally we were hoping to do well, and so we hit every shaft we thought was worth hitting to try to find just the right match between shaft and head.
Every shaft we hit was nice because they were all really good shafts, but the 1 shaft that stood head and shoulders above all the others was the Ultra Elite Tour Issue version of the Grafalloy Red, followed closely by the standard Red.
That is why they show as the 1st options on our web site. Vector is our Brand and when our name is on the line it is not about profit margins, it’s all about performance.
Among our list of shaft offerings on this club there are no bad choices, we have selected from the best each company has to offer, but we have had amazing results with the Tour Issue version of the Red and the Blue and think that you will agree.
As to the Rankmark.com testing, while we where hopeful to win it outright, past tests have shown that golfers seem to rank heavily advertised clubs above lesser known ones in spite of how they hit. So realistically our goal was and is to make their “Top Ten Best of The Best List” which is a whole lot better than many will make.
As I write this on July 22 2008 they have yet to publish the results.
Keep your fingers crossed.
